4 year olds

Four year olds are working on many of the same developmental tasks as 3s, but at a higher level.  Because their language can be so fluent, you may assume they understand more than they actually do.  Fours are a wonderful mix of independence and sociability.  They like doing things on their own.  They take great pride in imitating adult behaviors, but also love playing with others, especially in groups of two and three.  Fours are increasingly able to control their muscles.  Their fine motor coordination improves dramatically.  Because of today's standards, the knowledge base in each content area is quite systematic.  Fours have a new challenge set before them.  Children will be introduced to:  Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, The Arts, Technology, and Process Skills.  By years end, the child will be more than ready for kindergarten.
